Placitas Chair

The ‘Placitas chair’, was original purchased in 1955 at Den Permanente, Copenhagen. There are a few details about this chair that make it remarkable. First, is that it was ordered with a matching Chieftain footstool. That’s not a common sight. Secondly, this chair has it’s original papers, which help us put a firm date on certain characteristics. Most notably, this chair does have the sculpted spacer on the backside, and we know that the 1956 Arne Rudberger chair has the simple block-style spacer. We therefore know that the sculpted spacer was used between 1949–1955. This is also corrobrated with several other chairs such as the Interior52 Chair (1952), and the Breuer Chair (1950). This is an important distinction in being able to identify the earliest chairs.
